The United States Embassy in Conakry announces the annual competition for the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program. This is a one-year program, offered to mid-career professionals with a proven track record of leadership, a commitment to public service, and the capacity to take full advantage of a self-defined program of independent non-degree study at a leading U.S. University. The program which awards a certificate from the U.S. Government is one of a number of grants awarded through funds provided by the U.S. State Department under the mandate given to the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.
The program provides a basis for establishing lasting ties between citizens of the United States and their professional counterparts in other countries, fostering an exchange of knowledge and mutual understanding throughout the world.
Professionals who work in the following fields or sectors may apply: Agricultural and rural
development; Communications/journalism; Substance abuse education, treatment and prevention;
Economic development; Finance and banking; Educational administration planning and policy;
Higher education administration; HIV/AIDS policy and prevention; Human resource management;
Law and human rights; Natural resources environmental policy, and climate change, Public health
policy and management; Public policy analysis and public administration; Teaching of English as a
foreign language; Technology policy and management; Trafficking in persons policy and
prevention; Urban and regional planning.
To prove eligibility for a Humphrey Fellowship, applicants must also possess: A first degree from a recognized University; five years of full-time professional experience; demonstrated leadership qualities and a record of public service; demonstrated English language ability and limited prior experience in the U.S. (no more than 6 months in the last five years). Also, prospective fellows should be no older than 42 years old at the beginning of the program on August 1, 2012
The Humphrey Fellowship provides funding for international travel, tuition and university fees, accident/sickness insurance, books, professional activities and monthly maintenance allowances. The program however does not provide financial support for accompanying dependents.

Application deadline: March 15, 2012. Local selections will be made, followed by final selections in the United States by independent review committees and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. Awards will be announced by March 2013.
